New Orleans | Wilhelminapier, Rotterdam

This is my final project at Aarhus School of Architecture.

The project is situated at Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam, a harbour area now undergoing a tremendous transformation to a mini-Manhattan.
The pier hosted the Holland-America line for more than 100 years, so the original warehouses on Wilhelminapier all have names from American cities. My project is named after the original warehouse at the site.

Wilhelminapier is divided into three strips; dwelling, culture and commerce. The site, located to the south is part of the dwelling strip and very close to Rijnhaven.

The building has a h-shape to avoid blocking the view of the buildings on the middle of the pier. This furthermore leaves space on the ground creating a public space of recreation with direct access to the water.

Connecting the two towers are "The Bridge", a public space 70 meters in the air. From the Bridge you can see the entire city.
